Vet et Nous is offering a one-year internship for the year 2025-2026 at Centre Vétérinaire Rive-Sud.

The Centre Vétérinaire Rive-Sud is dedicated to providing the best possible veterinary care to its clientele, whether they are pet owners or referring veterinarians. The center is open 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. In addition to general and emergency medicine, we offer referral services in most specialties (internal medicine, surgery, oncology, neurology, ophthalmology, dermatology, diagnostic imaging, intensive care, anesthesiology and medical imaging).

 

Conditions of employment

  • 52-week fixed-term contract (starting July 2025)
  • Annual compensation of $60,000 (including childcare and travel expenses)
  • 4% vacation pay (2 weeks)
  • 35-hour work week
  • Flexible schedule (including day and evening shifts, Monday to Friday, and weekends)
  • On-call periods

 

Job Duties: As part of the assistance provided to, and under the supervision and direction of, the veterinarians on duty:

  • Consultations: Clinical examination and evaluation of animals, providing appropriate medical care, and performing rigorous follow-ups.
  • Animal diagnostics: Select diagnostic methods and interpret results.
  • Animal treatment: Recommend appropriate treatment during consultation, and direct and supervise animal treatment.
  • Telephone calls: Answer customer questions and calls, and inform customers of laboratory results and other tests.
  • Communication: Discussing differential diagnoses, treatment options, prognosis, cost, estimates, etc. with the client, informing the client personally of the costs of diagnostic procedures and treatments, documenting and charting.
  • Surgery: Assist veterinarians in routine surgeries.
  • Customer education: Ensure that the customer has a good understanding of their animal's medical condition.
  • Teamwork: Work closely (training, communication, delegation) with the team.
  • Estimating: Prepare cost estimates for surgeries, inpatient cases, treatments, etc., obtain deposits for surgical procedures or inpatient treatments, and have estimates approved by specialists when applicable.
  • Prescribing : Prescribe medications, prepare or fill prescriptions, perform prescription refills, record and maintain the number of authorized refills on file.
  • Hospitalized animals: Hospitalize the patient, follow up on hospitalized cases, interact with the attending veterinarian or perform ongoing case follow-up, if requested by the owner and required by the circumstances.
  • Record keeping: Carry out record keeping in accordance with Ordre (OMVQ) guidelines.
  • Other: Make case referrals when necessary, research cases as required, clean consultation rooms between consultations, check recalls, add or edit as required, get involved in educating the public and customers, participate in the outreach of the Veterinary Center.

Working language: French

Annual salary: $60,000 (including childcare and travel expenses)

Skills required:

  • Doctorate in veterinary medicine or a diploma from a college or faculty of veterinary medicine
  • One-year rotating internship completed or in progress, or professional experience of one year or more
  • Practice permit or temporary practice permit from the Ordre des médecins vétérinaires du Québec (OMVQ)
