{"id":4388,"date":"2023-08-22T15:45:33","date_gmt":"2023-08-22T19:45:33","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/dev.vetetnous.com\/?p=4388"},"modified":"2023-08-22T15:45:33","modified_gmt":"2023-08-22T19:45:33","slug":"have-you-heard-of-rabbit-hemorrhagic-disease","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/dev.vetetnous.com\/en\/blogue\/exotics\/have-you-heard-of-rabbit-hemorrhagic-disease\/","title":{"rendered":"Have You Heard of Rabbit Hemorrhagic Disease?"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>This new disease saw its first case in Quebec last July but has been around for some time in Europe.<\/p>\n<p>It's a potentially fatal disease that only affects rabbits and hares, and is not contagious for other pet species, nor for humans.<\/p>\n<p>For your rabbits, on the other hand, this disease is highly contagious and can be transmitted via clothing, shoes, or any other direct or indirect contact.<\/p>\n<p>Studies even show that it stays in the environment for a long time.<\/p>\n<p>Note that rabbits can catch it even if they don\u2019t go outside, if their owner has contact with other non-vaccinated rabbits.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h3><strong>What can you do to prevent this disease?<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p>Fortunately, a vaccine has been developed to protect your rabbits! It can be administered from 10 weeks of age and is effective within 7 days of administration.<\/p>\n<p>As the vaccine has been developed and tested in Europe for several years, we are confident of its efficacy and safety.<\/p>\n<p>Please note that booster shots are required annually, to prolong its efficacy.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h3><strong>What types of rabbits should receive this vaccine?<\/strong><\/h3>\n<ul>\n<li>Rabbits in contact with several other rabbits (boarding, show, breeder, etc.),<\/li>\n<li>Rabbits whose owners are in contact with rabbits that are not theirs,<\/li>\n<li>Rabbits with access to the outdoors, and<\/li>\n<li>Newly adopted rabbits, regardless of their origin (shelter, breeder, private owner).<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>This new disease saw its first case in Quebec last July but has been around for some time in Europe.
