{"id":2153,"date":"2022-08-03T15:29:16","date_gmt":"2022-08-03T19:29:16","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.vetetnous.com\/?post_type=conseils&#038;p=2153"},"modified":"2022-08-03T15:29:16","modified_gmt":"2022-08-03T19:29:16","slug":"getting-ready-for-a-successful-adoption","status":"publish","type":"conseils","link":"https:\/\/dev.vetetnous.com\/en\/tips\/getting-ready-for-a-successful-adoption\/","title":{"rendered":"Getting Ready for a Successful Adoption!"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>It is important to have all the necessary equipment to guide your new kitten, for the first few days to be a great experience for everyone.<\/p>\n<p>Here is what you should have on hand before your kitten arrives:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Collar<\/li>\n<li>Leash and harness (if you plan to let him go outside)<\/li>\n<li>ID tag or medal<\/li>\n<li>Food &amp; water bowl (made of ceramic or stainless steel)<\/li>\n<li>Litter box, litter and scoop<\/li>\n<li>Bed<\/li>\n<li>Cat brush and claw trimmers<\/li>\n<li>Toothbrush and cat toothpaste<\/li>\n<li>Safe toys<\/li>\n<li>Pet carrier<\/li>\n<li>Balanced kitten food<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><em>\u00a0<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>Sometimes we miss a few details, so here's a quick checklist to help you!<\/em><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Kitten-proof your home by getting on your hands and knees to see any potential hazards. Any objects or plants that might attract your pet should be removed. Don't forget to hide electrical cords and store all household products out of reach.<\/li>\n<li>Choose a short name that doesn\u2019t sound like a command.<\/li>\n<li>Offer him a scratch post or even a cat tree. He will use it happily!<\/li>\n<li>Alternate toys and find different games to play. Keeping your kitten active greatly helps in preventing behaviour issues.<\/li>\n<li>One week after his adoption, make an appointment with your veterinarian for a health exam, vaccination and deworming. It is also possible to get your kitten microchipped.<\/li>\n<li>Make sure your kitten cannot access the stairs, balcony or patio unattended.<\/li>\n<li>Do not leave any table scraps or garbage bags within his reach.<\/li>\n<li>Have a first aid kit ready (available here) \u2013 you can also make an emergency evacuation plan.<\/li>\n<li>Get information about pet insurance plans.<\/li>\n<li>Socialization, positive reinforcement, and regular handling of your kitten\u2019s ears, mouth, and paws (including claws) are key to making your new companion as happy as he can be!<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>It is important to have all the necessary equipment to guide your new kitten, for the first few days to be a great experience for everyone.
